Any VoIP service will work from most anywhere in the world, as long as you have a good highspeed Internet connection. And, as long as the country you are in doesn’t block VoIP traffice (which some foreign countries do).

Here is a page with a list of VoIP providers you can compare. You’re best bet will be to get a DID (direct inbound dialing) phone number from wherever the majority of people you will be talking to are. That way you get the voip line set up on your computer in South Africa you will still only be looking at rates that are more like local calls.http://www.nch.com.au/talk/sip.html

go with skype its what my dad used when he was deployed to Bahrain and Iraq its way cheaper than vonage and higher quality

Assuming you’re going to have high speed internet, I’d look into skype. It works well, is cheap, and can run through virtually any computer.
